What is happening to our data centers, the iron heart of Yandex

October 09, 2026

On the night of October 7th to 8th, the Yandex data center in Sasovo was seriously damaged in a drone attack. It has been completely shut down. This morning, another of our data centers, in Kaluga, was attacked. Part of its infrastructure is out of service. No employees were hurt in either Sasovo or Kaluga. Emergency services and our specialists are now working on site.

Data centers are the iron heart of Yandex. Their operation is critical for services that have become part of people's everyday lives. Millions of users check traffic and plan routes, listen to music, watch movies, order groceries and get answers to their questions. Our technology helps hundreds of thousands of companies run their businesses. They use it to take orders, serve customers and work with partners.

We understand that for our users, customers and partners, every outage means disrupted plans. It means they cannot do things that were part of their everyday lives or work.

Our teams are working day and night to do everything possible to keep services running and to help those affected by the incident. Right now this is our most important task, but unfortunately it is not an easy one.

Thank you to our employees, both those on site and those who continue working to restore services. Thank you to our partners for their patience and cooperation, and to our users for their understanding.

We are continuing to assess the condition of our infrastructure. For now, it is very difficult to say when the equipment at the data centers will be back up and running. We will share updates as more information becomes available.
